Bagels Bravo ! Filly

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 t cooking oil
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 T sugar
  • 3/4 t salt
  • 1 t active dry or bread machine yeast

1) Put all ingredients in order in bread machine pan.
2) Select dough cycle.  When done, remove from machine, punch down, cover and let rest 10 minutes.
3) Divide dough into 9 portions.  Working quickly, shape each into a smooth ball.  Use thumb to punch a hole in center of each, pull to make a 2 inch hole.
4) Place on a large, greased cookie sheet, cover, let rise 20 minutes.
5) Broil 3-4 minutes, turning once, do not let tops get brown.
6) Simmer bagels 7 minutes, turning once, in about 1 1/2 quart water with 1 T sugar dissolved in it.  Drain on paper towels.
7) Put back on cookie sheet, brush tops with a mixture of slightly beaten egg white and 1 T water.  Add toppings now, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion bits, etc.
8) Bake at 375 degrees 25-30 minutes or until tops are golden brown.

Serve warm or toasted with cream cheese or butter.
